Part of what makes the PYP special is it's trans-disciplinary approach to learning. This means that students get to explore ideas and concepts from all the different subjects that they study. A beautiful example of this can be seen in a recent unit from the Year 3 and 4 classes. Within their classroom the students were inquiring into the ways that inventors and inventions have changed the world. To look at this idea through an artistic lens, our PYP art teacher Ms. Nadene had the students explore the impressionist artistic movement, and how the impressionists invented their own style of painting that changed the art world.

After inquiring into the impressionist movement the students were very excited to try their hand at this revolutionary style of painting. The results as you can see are very impressive. Afterwards the Year 3 and 4 students were excited to learn more about impressionist painters, so to connect their learning even further our music teacher Mr. Paul shared with them the song, 'Vincent' by Don Maclean. Through music the students learned about the life of famous impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh. They also explored other famous musical inventors during their music lessons.

Exciting learning experiences like these are the result of collaborative planning between all of our PYP teachers. We like to think it provides a richer, and more meaningful way for our students to learn.
